History Of Clifton Savings Bank

Clifton Savings Bank was established on January 1, 1928, originally under the name Clifton Savings and Loan Association. Over the decades, the institution underwent several name changes, with its first significant rebranding occurring on October 31, 1989, when it became Clifton Savings Bank S.L.A. In the early 2000s, the bank transitioned to a stock savings and loan organization, changing its name again on January 7, 2002, to Clifton Savings Bank, S.L.A., a designation it held until July 21, 2011, when it officially became Clifton Savings Bank. During this period, it also changed its primary federal regulatory agency to The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. On September 12, 2007, the bank further redefined its organizational structure by becoming a stock savings bank and changing its chartering agency to the Office of Thrift Supervision. The main office was relocated to 1433 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton, New Jersey, in both 1998 and again in 2002. Ultimately, Clifton Savings Bank merged with Kearny Bank on April 2, 2018, and ceased to operate as an independent entity.
