Citizens State Bank and Trust Company, originally established as Citizens State Bank on May 31, 1900, in Ellsworth, Kansas, has undergone several regulatory and structural changes throughout its history. On December 30, 1942, the institution became a state-chartered bank and joined the Federal Reserve System. This membership was withdrawn on December 7, 1970, when the bank changed its classification to a state-chartered bank not affiliated with the Federal Reserve, with the primary federal regulatory agency being the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The bank rejoined the Federal Reserve System on November 17, 1980, and subsequently changed its classification to a state-chartered bank while remaining a member of the Federal Reserve. On the same date, it also acquired full trust powers. The institution adopted its current name, Citizens State Bank and Trust Company, on March 4, 1974.
