History Of Citizens Bank
Citizens Bank, originally established as Citizens Bank & Trust Company on October 26, 1929, in Carthage, Tennessee, has undergone several significant changes throughout its history. On January 14, 1958, the institution changed its name to Citizens Bank and transitioned to a state-chartered bank, withdrawing from membership in the Federal Reserve System on the same day, thereby changing its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). In 1977, Citizens Bank expanded its banking powers by obtaining full trust powers. The bank further expanded its operations by acquiring White County Bank in Sparta, Tennessee, on January 1, 1984. After nearly two decades at various locations, the main office relocated to 407 Main Street in Carthage, Tennessee, on April 5, 2004.
