Citizens 1st Bank, originally established as Citizens State Bank on April 24, 1920, has undergone several changes in name, ownership, and regulatory status throughout its history. The institution changed its name to Citizens Bank on January 26, 1981, before transitioning to its current name, Citizens 1st Bank, on March 5, 1992. In the early 1990s, the bank expanded through acquisitions, including First Federal Savings Association of Nacogdoches, Timberland Federal Savings Association, and First Southwest Federal Savings and Loan Association. On April 2, 1973, the main office relocated to 601 North Main Street in Rusk, Texas, and later moved again to 2001 East Southeast Loop 323 in Tyler, Texas, on October 17, 1997.
