Chemung Canal Trust Company was established on October 22, 1833, and is one of the oldest financial institutions in New York. Originally founded under its current name, the company has a history of growth through acquisitions. Notably, in 1974, it acquired Montour National Bank located in Montour Falls, New York. This was followed by the acquisition of The Owego National Bank on January 3, 1995. The company's main office was moved to One Chemung Canal Plaza in Elmira, New York, on August 30, 1971.
