History Of CharterBank

CharterBank, originally established as Charter Federal Savings and Loan Association on June 15, 1954, underwent several changes and expansions throughout its history. The bank changed its name to CharterBank on November 10, 1999, and continued to grow through a series of acquisitions, including Citizens National Bank in Valley, Alabama, in August 1999, and Eagle Bank of Alabama in February 2003. In 2009, CharterBank acquired Neighborhood Community Bank in Newnan, Georgia, and McIntosh Commercial Bank in Carrollton, Georgia, as part of government-assisted mergers. The bank moved its main office to West Point, Georgia, in October 2009, and in July 2011, it changed its primary federal regulatory agency to The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Further expansion occurred with the acquisition of The First National Bank of Florida in September 2011 and the subsequent acquisitions of Community Bank of the South in Smyrna, Georgia, in April 2016, and Resurgens Bank in Tucker, Georgia, in September 2017. On September 1, 2018, CharterBank merged with CenterState Bank, National Association, marking a significant transition in its operations. Following further rebranding, the institution officially changed its name to SouthState Bank, National Association, on June 8, 2020, and again on November 5, 2021.
