Charles Schwab Bank, officially known as Charles Schwab Bank, Ssb, is a financial institution that was established on April 28, 2003, originally as Charles Schwab Bank, National Association. The bank initially operated under the federal regulatory framework and was designated as a national association. In November 2007, it transitioned to a federal savings bank and subsequently adopted the name Charles Schwab Bank while withdrawing from membership in the Federal Reserve System. The bank experienced further regulatory changes, becoming a stock savings bank and changing its primary federal regulatory agency to the Office of Thrift Supervision. On July 21, 2011, the regulatory oversight shifted to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. After several years, on March 20, 2020, Charles Schwab Bank became a state-chartered bank and a member of the Federal Reserve System, changing its primary federal regulatory agency accordingly.
