Initially, it operated without Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insurance. The organization underwent several changes over the years, including its classification to a FDIC Supervised State Savings Bank in 1996 and later transitioning to a Cooperative Bank Stock on the same date. On June 18, 2007, Charles River Bank changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Reserve and became a member of the Federal Reserve System, altering its classification to a State Chartered Bank.
