Carolina Bank was established on November 25, 1996, under the original name Carolina Savings Bank, Inc., Ssb. On October 1, 1997, it changed its organizational type to a commercial bank and adopted the name Carolina Bank. The main office of the bank moved several times, with a move to 2604 Lawndale Drive in Greensboro, North Carolina, on July 14, 2000, followed by a relocation to 101 North Spring Street in Greensboro on September 22, 2008. On March 4, 2017, Carolina Bank merged with First Bank, based in Southern Pines, North Carolina, thus ceasing to exist as an independent entity.
