History Of Capstone Bank
Capstone Bank was established on December 15, 1978, originally under the name Washington County State Bank. The bank underwent a name change to Southwest Bank of Alabama on September 16, 1996. Over the years, Capstone Bank expanded its operations and locations, moving its main office several times within Alabama. Notably, on March 5, 2008, the institution changed its name to Capstone Bank. In the same year, it acquired Security Bank on November 5 and relocated its main office to 2330 University Boulevard in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Further changes included another move of the main office to 2301 University Boulevard on June 14, 2010, and again on March 21, 2011. Ultimately, Capstone Bank became part of SmartBank through a merger that took place on November 1, 2017, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.
