Capital City Bank was established on January 30, 1892, originally operating under the name Richland State Bank. The institution underwent several name changes, becoming Capital City State Bank in 1964 and later Capital City State Bank & Trust Company in 1970. Over the years, the bank moved its main office multiple times, with a significant relocation to 3710 Southwest Topeka Avenue in Topeka, Kansas, occurring on April 23, 1996. On January 1, 1993, Capital City Bank acquired Southwest Bank & Trust, further expanding its operations. The bank officially changed its name to Capital City Bank in 1993. In a strategic merger, Capital City Bank became part of Capitol Federal Savings Bank on August 31, 2018, marking the end of its independent operations in Topeka, Kansas.
