Buffalo Prairie State Bank was established on September 29, 1920. Over the years, the bank underwent several significant changes. On May 27, 1980, the main office was relocated to 183rd Avenue West in Buffalo Prairie, Illinois. Subsequently, on March 31, 2006, the main office moved again to 20228 183rd Avenue West, also in Buffalo Prairie, Illinois. In early 2015, specifically on April 1, Buffalo Prairie State Bank merged with Central State Bank, which is located in Muscatine, Iowa. Following this merger, the institution changed its name to CBI Bank & Trust on September 1, 2015.
