Boston Private Bank

Boston Private Bank & Trust Company, originally established as Trust Management Bank on November 21, 1983, underwent several name and structural changes throughout its history. The institution acquired full trust powers shortly after its establishment and changed its name to Boston Private Bank & Trust Company in November 1986. Over the years, the bank relocated its main office multiple times within Boston, Massachusetts, settling at Ten Post Office Square in February 1995. The bank expanded through acquisitions, including Charter Private Bank in Bellevue, Washington; Borel Private Bank & Trust Company in San Mateo, California; and First Private Bank & Trust in Encino, California, all on May 27, 2011. In July 2017, Boston Private changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Reserve and became a state-chartered bank and a member of the Federal Reserve System. On July 1, 2021, the bank merged with Silicon Valley Bank, located in Santa Clara, California. However, on March 10, 2023, Boston Private Bank failed and was merged with government financial assistance.
