Blue Hills Bank was established in 1871 as Hyde Park Savings Bank, originally operating without Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insurance. The institution became FDIC insured on November 8, 1985, and underwent a significant organizational change on October 28, 2008, when it transitioned to a Stock Savings Bank. On November 1, 2011, the bank adopted the name Blue Hills Bank. After nearly eight years of operation under this name, Blue Hills Bank merged with Rockland Trust Company, based in Rockland, Massachusetts, on April 1, 2019, thereby becoming a part of the larger financial institution.
