Beacon Bank was established on January 1, 1906, originally under the name First State Bank of New Germany in New Germany, Minnesota. Over the years, the institution underwent several name changes and relocations. On January 31, 1991, it changed its name to First State Bank of Excelsior, coinciding with a move of its main office to 35 Water Street, Excelsior, Minnesota. Subsequently, the bank relocated its main office again on September 30, 1989, to 270 Broadway Street East in New Germany, Minnesota. The name was changed to Beacon Bank on February 1, 1999. On April 1, 1996, the main office moved to 19765 Highway 7 in Shorewood, Minnesota. Ultimately, on January 16, 2016, Beacon Bank merged with and became part of Alerus Financial, National Association, based in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
