History Of BayVanguard Bank
BayVanguard Bank is a commercial bank headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, originally established on September 1, 1873, as the Light Street Savings and Building Association. The institution underwent several transformations throughout its history, including changing its name to Light Street Federal Savings and Loan Association in 1988 and later to Bay Federal Savings and Loan Association in 1990. It became Bay-Vanguard Federal Savings Bank in 1996 after acquiring Vanguard Savings and Loan Association and subsequently transitioned to a mutual savings bank. The bank's name was changed to BayVanguard Bank on August 23, 2018, coinciding with a shift to being an FDIC-supervised state savings bank. Since then, it has continued to expand through acquisitions, purchasing institutions such as Vigilant Federal Savings Bank in 2013 and North Arundel Savings Bank in 2022. On June 29, 2023, BayVanguard Bank changed its organization type to a commercial bank and its bank class to a state-chartered bank, no longer a member of the Federal Reserve System.
