History Of Banterra Bank
Banterra Bank is a financial institution originally established on November 26, 1955, under the name Bank of Egypt. The bank underwent several name changes over the years, officially becoming Banterra Bank of Marion on July 1, 1989. On March 15, 1993, it adopted the name Banterra Bank. The institution expanded through a series of acquisitions, including Banterra Bank Group in Eldorado, Illinois, and Banterra Bank of Christopher and Banterra Bank of West Frankfort, all on September 11, 1998. Subsequent acquisitions included Heartland National Bank in Herrin, Illinois, in June 1999, and The National State Bank of Metropolis in Metropolis, Illinois, in December 2000 as part of a government-assisted merger. Other significant transactions included the acquisition of The Exchange National Bank of Jefferson City, Missouri, in October 2007 and Area Bank in Rosiclare, Illinois, in October 2014. The bank further adjusted its operations by changing its trust powers to none on August 30, 2011. The main office relocated to 3201 Banterra Drive in Marion, Illinois, on January 20, 2004.
