BankUnited is a commercial bank that was established in 2009 in Coral Gables, Florida, initially operating under the name UnitedBank. On May 21, 2009, it acquired the assets of BankUnited, FSB as part of a government-assisted merger, and subsequently changed its name to BankUnited on May 22, 2009. In March 2010, the main office was relocated to Miami Lakes, Florida. On February 29, 2012, the institution underwent significant organizational changes, including a reclassification to a national bank and membership in the Federal Reserve System. The regulatory oversight of the bank also shifted to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency on July 21, 2011. Further expanding its operations, BankUnited acquired Herald National Bank in New York on March 22, 2013. Bank United in Central Florida does a great job and I very highly recommend the Altamonte and Lake Mary and South Orlando branches! However customer service employees which are from South Florida and all of the south Florida upper level management is just plain rude and unprofessional! This branch has no customer service, doesn't attempt to resolve a complaint and will not accept legal documents if it doesn't fit their agenda for denying reinstatement of Guardianship accounts they restricted after they allowed fraud on it twice.
