History Of BankSouth
BankSouth is a financial institution that was established on April 10, 1946, under the name The Citizens Bank. Situated in Greensboro, Georgia, the bank underwent a significant rebranding on January 26, 2004, changing its name to BankSouth. Over the years, the institution has changed its regulatory and organizational structure several times. On July 19, 1996, it transitioned to a Stock Savings Bank and switched its primary federal regulatory agency to the Office of Thrift Supervision. This regulatory designation lasted until July 21, 2011, when BankSouth changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. As part of its growth strategy, BankSouth acquired Bank of Union Point in Union Point, Georgia, on March 3, 1977, and North Georgia Bank in Watkinsville, Georgia, on February 4, 2011, as part of a government-assisted merger. The main office of BankSouth moved to its current location at 6340 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, Georgia, on September 14, 2012.
