History Of BankProv
BankProv, originally established in 1828 as the Provident Institution for Savings in the Towns of Salisbury and Amesbury, has undergone several name changes and structural developments throughout its history. The institution initially operated without Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insurance until it became insured on July 1, 1985. Over the years, the main office has moved several times, with a notable relocation to One Market Street in Amesbury, Massachusetts, on November 4, 1991, and later to Five Market Street on January 14, 2000, coinciding with its change to a Stock Savings Bank. In 2001, BankProv acquired the Amesbury Co-operative Bank, leading to further growth.
