BankNewport is a financial institution based in Newport, Rhode Island, established in 1819 under the name The Savings Bank of Newport. Over its long history, the bank has undergone several changes in organization type and name. In 1973, it became known as The Savings Bank of Newport, and on June 1, 1987, it changed its name to Bank of Newport after acquiring the Newport County Trust Company and gaining full trust powers. On April 18, 2005, the institution was rebranded as BankNewport and transitioned to a stock savings bank.
