Bank of Texas was established on August 4, 1962, originally under the name Kent County State Bank. The institution's main office was initially located on Main Street in Jayton, Texas. On April 20, 1990, the main office relocated to a new address at 102 Donaho Street in Jayton. In a significant development on February 4, 2010, the bank changed its name to Bank of Texas and moved its main office to 306 W Wall Street, Midland, Texas.
