The Bank of Tampa, established on March 30, 1973, was originally named North American Bank of Tampa. It underwent several name changes throughout its history, becoming Popular Bank of Tampa on April 15, 1974, and later Independent Bank of Florida on August 26, 1980. The institution withdrew from membership in the Federal Reserve System on June 29, 1981. On January 31, 1985, it adopted its current name, The Bank of Tampa. The bank expanded its trust capabilities to full service on February 23, 2000, and relocated its main office to 601 Bayshore Boulevard, Suite 100, Tampa, Florida, on January 1, 2010. Most recently, on October 1, 2021, The Bank of Tampa acquired Hillsboro Bank in Plant City, Florida.
