History Of Banco Santander Puerto Rico

Banco Santander Puerto Rico was established on October 2, 1972, initially known as Banco de Santander-Puerto Rico. Over the years, it underwent several name changes, becoming Banco de Santander-Puerto Rico, N.A. in May 1977, and later adopting the name Banco Santander Puerto Rico in March 1990. The bank expanded through acquisitions, including Caguas Federal Savings and Loan Association of Puerto Rico in August 1990, Santander National Bank in November 1994, and Banco Central Hispano - Puerto Rico in October 1996. In March 2006, the main office was relocated to 207 Ponce De Leon Avenue, San Juan, Puerto Rico. After operating for several decades, Banco Santander Puerto Rico merged with FirstBank Puerto Rico on September 1, 2020, marking the end of its independent operations in Santurce, Puerto Rico.
