History Of Atlantic Coast Bank
Atlantic Coast Bank is a financial institution that has undergone several name and organizational changes since its inception. It was originally established as Waycross A.C.L. Employees Federal Credit Union on March 27, 1939, and was later renamed Waycross S.C.L. Employees Federal Credit Union in 1967. In 1971, the institution voluntarily relinquished its Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insurance and changed its classification to a non-FDIC insured credit union. The organization continued to evolve, becoming 1st Railroad Community Federal Credit Union in 1986, and subsequently Atlantic Coast Federal Credit Union in 1994. The year 2000 marked a significant transition as it changed its regulatory oversight to the Office of Thrift Supervision (OTS), adjusted its organization type to Mutual Savings & Loan, and became federally insured. On June 29, 2006, it adopted the name Atlantic Coast Bank and shifted its organization type to Stock Savings & Loan on January 1, 2003. Over the years, it relocated its main office several times within Jacksonville, Florida, including moves in February 2011 and May 2014. In a restructuring on December 27, 2016, Atlantic Coast Bank changed its organization type to a commercial bank and its chartering agency to the state, while no longer being a member of the Federal Reserve System.
