Amistad Bank, originally established as First National Bank - Big Lake on April 25, 1986, underwent several name changes and structural modifications throughout its history. On February 24, 1993, the institution changed its name to First National Bank of Big Lake. This was followed on March 15, 1994, by a rebranding to Big Lake Bank, National Association. On June 20, 2003, the bank transitioned from a national association to a state-chartered bank, changing its name to Big Lake Bank and withdrawing from membership in the Federal Reserve System. Subsequently, the institution's primary regulatory agency shifted to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
