History Of American Midwest Bank

American Midwest Bank was established on October 15, 1973, under the name University National Bank of De Kalb. The institution underwent several name changes and operational shifts over the years. On May 4, 1976, it was renamed The American National Bank of De Kalb. In 1990, the bank further changed its name to The American National Bank of De Kalb County. During the 1990s, the bank expanded through acquisitions, including Farmers and Merchants Bank on September 6, 1991. The bank's main office moved to 1985 Dekalb Avenue in Sycamore, Illinois, in October 1999. On November 18, 2011, the institution rebranded as American Midwest Bank and updated its regulatory status, transitioning to a state-chartered bank and withdrawing from membership in the Federal Reserve System. On November 20, 2011, American Midwest Bank acquired AmericaUnited Bank and Trust Company in Schaumburg, Illinois. The bank continued to operate until April 29, 2016, when it merged and became part of Heartland Bank and Trust Company in Bloomington, Illinois.
