History Of American Federal Bank

American Federal Bank is a financial institution originally established as the American Federal Savings and Loan Association of East Grand Forks in 1891. Over the years, it underwent several name and organizational changes. In 1985, the institution changed its name to American Federal Savings Bank and modified its organization type to a mutual savings bank. By 1991, the bank transitioned to a stock savings bank and moved its main office to 124 De Mers Avenue, East Grand Forks, Minnesota. The institution adopted the name American Federal Bank in 1995. In 1996, it expanded its operations by acquiring Northwestern Savings Bank, F.S.B. in Fargo, North Dakota. The main office was relocated to 215 North Fifth Street, Fargo, North Dakota in 1997. In 1977, American Federal Bank also acquired Hallock Savings and Loan Association in Hallock, Minnesota. The regulatory oversight of the bank changed to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency on July 21, 2011, reflecting its ongoing evolution within the banking sector.
