American Exchange Bank was established on July 13, 1889, originally operating under the same name. Over the years, the bank underwent several changes in its location and regulatory status. On July 23, 1989, the main office was relocated to Main Street in Elmwood, Nebraska. In a significant transition, on September 10, 2001, the main office moved to 440 D Street in Eagle, Nebraska. Shortly thereafter, on September 14, 2001, the bank changed its primary federal regulatory agency to the Federal Reserve (FED) and became a state-chartered bank, officially becoming a member of the Federal Reserve System.
