American Chartered Bank was established on July 23, 1987. Throughout its history, the institution underwent several significant changes, including a series of acquisitions and mergers. The bank merged with MB Financial Bank, National Association, in Chicago, Illinois, on August 24, 2016. Subsequently, on May 4, 2019, American Chartered Bank became part of Fifth Third Bank, headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. The institution officially changed its name to Fifth Third Bank, National Association, on November 14, 2019.
