American Bank of Texas was established on September 1, 1971, originally under the name The American Bank and Trust of Denison. The institution underwent a name change to The American Bank and Trust of Denison on November 8, 1976, and then adopted the name American Bank of Texas on April 1, 1993. That same year, it moved its main office to 2011 Texoma Parkway in Sherman, Texas, and expanded its operations by acquiring American Bank of Sherman, National Association. On November 10, 2016, American Bank of Texas merged with First United Bank and Trust Company, based in Durant, Oklahoma, marking the end of its independent operations.
