History Of Ameriana Bank

Ameriana Bank was established in 1890 under the name Henry County Savings and Loan Association. Over the years, the institution underwent numerous name and organizational changes. In 1985, it was renamed Ameriana Savings Bank and transitioned to a Mutual Savings Bank structure in 1986. The bank continued to evolve, changing its name to Ameriana Bank, Federal Savings Bank in 1998 and then to Ameriana Bank & Trust of Indiana in 2000. During this time, it expanded by acquiring Ameriana Bank of Ohio, F.S.B. in October 2000 and Citizens Federal Savings and Loan Association of New Castle in September 1988. Following several regulatory changes, including becoming FDIC supervised in 2001, the bank changed its name to Ameriana Bank on June 10, 2009, when it also became a commercial bank. It operated under this name until December 31, 2015, when it merged with First Merchants Bank National Association, located in Muncie, Indiana. The institution officially changed its name to First Merchants Bank on April 15, 2016.
