ACNB Bank, originally established as The First National Bank of Gettysburg on April 11, 1857, has a rich history marked by several mergers and changes. In 1962, the institution changed its name to Adams County National Bank and relocated its main office to Littlestown, Pennsylvania. The bank continued to grow and evolve, moving its main office to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in 1978 and acquiring The National Bank of Arendtsville the same year. In subsequent years, ACNB Bank expanded through various acquisitions, including The Bendersville National Bank in 1987 and The Farmers National Bank of Newville in 2000. The institution underwent significant changes on October 4, 2010, when it rebranded itself as ACNB Bank and transitioned to a state-chartered bank regulated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation rather than the Federal Reserve System.
